As made. Light bronze surfaces, with some darker hues in the recesses.

 

An immensely impressive and ambitious type, this official medal for the FIDEM Congress in Colorado Springs was designed with the congress's theme in mind, that of "Passages to Reconstruction." As such, it was a nod to the then-recent aftermath of hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in Indonesia from a few years prior. Given its intriguing "puzzle"-like shape, multiple examples of the medal can be placed together in an interlocking fashion to form an even larger piece of art.
