    EDITH • VON • SCHRENCK • DECIMA • MUSARIUM, bust facing, with head turned left // Nude female dancing slightly left; six angels to the left, five to the right, playing music. Edge: Plain.

     

    Huszár & Procopius 1970; Forrer vol. VIII, p. 366. Mint State. Deep brown surfaces, with some subtle cobalt-green highlights. A very rare and impressive specimen.

    Born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1891, the elegant dancer Edith von Schrenck fled with her family to München in 1917 in the wake of the October Revolution. In München, she performed in the Kammerspiele, and in the ensuing decade, she performed domestically in Frankfurt, Berlin, and Stuttgart, as well around Europe in Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, and the Netherlands. She would eventually found dance schools in München and Berlin.
