102911  |  NORWAY. Haakon VII and Maud silver Medal. Issued 1906 for their coronation at Trondheim (40mm, 32.33 g, 12h). By Ivar Throndsen.

KONG HAAKON VII OG DRONNING MAUD, crowned busts left of Haakon, mantled, and Maud // TIL MINDE OM KRONINGEN I TRONDHJEM (in commemoration of the coronation at Trondheim), perspective façade of Nidaros Cathedral from the northeast; below, date between cruciform cross with axes to left and right. Edge: .925 S «crossed hammers» R.

Choice Mint State. Extremely vibrant and prooflike, with some scattered, subtle iridescence; a few inconsequential prints in the reverse field prevent what would otherwise be a gem designation. Compare to an inferior example, a PCGS SP-63 with duller matte surfaces, that realized a total of $288 in the Stack's Bowers February CCO (1 March 2024), lot 75420.

The Cathedral at Nidaros has served as the site for the coronations of Norwegian monarchs since 1449. The exterior restoration as depicted here on this medal was completed just five years prior to the coronation, with the interior addressed a few years later, and ultimately completed in 1930.
