Map of North and South America (Western Hemisphere), with lines of latitude and longitude crossing globe // Map of Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia (Eastern Hemisphere), with lines of latitude and longitude crossing globe. Edge: Plain.
BHM –; Eimer 1139a. Mint State. A few scattered spots and marks, but great brilliance remaining for a scarce type that often shows the effects of pestering.
An exceptionally intriguing issue, this design has been traditionally dated to around 1820 on account of the lack of Antarctica at the bottom of each hemisphere. Antarctica was formally discovered in January of that year, and would likely have been included in such cartographic renderings not that long after. A tremendous time capsule for a world that was nearly fully explored.
