DEUTSCH IST DER RHEIN! (The Rhine is German!), Neptune/Poseidon (with characteristics of the German 'wildman') standing left, holding trident and extending right hand //PFALZ U RHEINLAND RÄUMUNG (the eviction from the Palatinate and Rhineland), Germania standing facing slightly left, head lowered, cradling German miners and vintners (representing the formerly occupied regions) in her arms.

Part of the punishment for Germany following World War I was that areas of the country, such as the Rhineland and the Palatinate, would be under occupation in order to ensure that reparations were paid and that no military build up would take place. When the occupation finally came to an end, much celebration occurred, which is the essence of this classic type by Goetz.
