103079  |  FRANCE. "Phonographe" Art Deco bronze Medal. Issued 1933 (68mm, 150.20 g). By Maurice Delannoy at the Paris mint.

Six jugate heads right: orchestral conductor, saxophone player, two singers, cellist, and trumpeter; sheet music scrolling below from a wind-up record player; PHONOGRAPHE in exergue // Vinyl record (or likely shellac for the period). Edge: «cornucopia» BRONZE.

CGMP p. 138; Baldwin's 81, lot 3547; cf. Silich II, 548 (for a similar uniface type without the record reverse). Choice Mint State. Olive-brown surfaces. A fairly scarce and alluring music-related Art Deco medal.

Featuring Delannoy's classic Art Deco style upon the obverse, this delightful medal takes full use of the round nature of the canvas, with the reverse lacking any lettering or symbolic aspect, and instead using the space as the perfect encapsulation of a vinyl record or—likely much more period-appropriate for when this piece was struck—a shellac record.
