In 1981, an international competition for medallic art was announced by Galleria Domus Barbara in Locarno. For this competition, Guus Hellegers created the present whimsical medal, entitled "Gone with the Wind." While no first place prize was awarded at the competition, two second place prizes were—one to Hellegers for this design, and one to Kiss Nagy András of Hungary. In total, 58 artists from 12 countries contributed 76 medals to the competition.
