    103128  |  BULGARIA. "Antivirus 2000" cast brass Medal. Issued 1999 (92mm x 96mm, 349 g, 12h). By Bogomil Nikolov.

Outline of a standard 3-1/2" floppy disk, with it signed in the form of an email address (opus.bnikolov@netbg.com) and titled ANTI / VIRUS / 2000 on the label // The same outline of a floppy disk, with rider on horse trotting right (inspired by the reverse of Pisanello's 1438 medal for John VIII Palaeologus); flower to upper right. Edge: Plain.

Médailles 2012, p. 212 (fig. 5); The Medal –; British Museum 2002,0712.1. Mint State. Olive-gray surfaces. Very rare and intriguing, with the obverse nearly perfectly mimicking a form of technology that already seems to be an obsolete antique—the floppy disk.

    Ex David B. Simpson Collection.

A perfect encapsulation of the very beginnings of medallic art and aspects of contemporary technology (at least, contemporary as of about 25 years ago), this enthralling work by Prof. Bogomil Nikolov pairs a design inspired by one of the original masters, Pisanello from the 15th century, and tech from the Y2K era, the 3-1/2" floppy disk. An exceptional piece that pushes the bounds of modern medallic art, all while paying homage to the art's earliest days.
